Our next function was 3 July for the studio mid-year Medal Exams. All candidates were successful in their Medals. Our Examiners were Tom & Maree Whalan. Our candidates were Robyn - Silver Latin; Barbara - Silver Star Standard Ballroom; & Margaret - Silver Star Standard Ballroom.
July also saw the departure of Shannon Rogers and her family. We wish her well in searching a new direction for her dancing.
We are now well into 2018, and our first function was to dance in support of Johnathon Peebles (Kat in the Hat), at Leslie Williams Seniors Concert at Panthers. I have attached some photos of that entertaining event. Also, a big thank you to Leslie whose energy and committment had made this event possible.
Our final function for 2017 was our Medal Exams (at the studio), on Saturday 9 December. We have 4 candidates being presented. All candidates presented a high level of dancing and it proves that medal exams can be a very effective learning tool.
We ran a successful fund-raising social dance for the Cancer Council. We raised over $520 towards the efforts of Evelina Kemp.
On 13 October, we had a very inspiring session in support of Rosanna Vanderley and Stuart Malcolm as they performed at the Glasshouse (presented by the Conservatorium Mid North Coast Inc. It was a wonderful experience to dance in support of such accomplished and respected musitions. Look out for more dancing in 2018.
Our final Social dance (on 1 December 2017) was well received. Hopefully, increased support in 2018 will allow us to hold more social dancing. We need your support!
I have added some photos (courtesy of Kevin Rowan) from our June Medal Test. What we lacked in numbers, we certainly made up in quality. A special mention to Margaret Loew, who did an extrodinary Silver Star Old Time Medal. Old Time requires a lot of control and poise. It is very taxing on even the most experienced dancers, but Margaret's demonstration of her dances was a master class that anyone could use as the standard to aspire.
Well done to all the Medalists, and we have definately lifted the bar for our next exams in December.
On Saturday 20 May, Shannon & Greg partnered for a display in support of "Make a Wish Australia". We danced the Modern Waltz, and the Tango at the "Moulin Rouge Spectacular Ball".
Kevin Rowan was on hand with his camera and has kindly supplied me with some great photos. Some of them I have added below, but a full range can be viewed on our facebook page - Danceway Ballroom Dancing Studio.
If you wish to donate to "Make a Wish", just visit their website. Your support is essential to allow them to continue their work.
